The Memory Box Project Online is part of the Wessex Heritage Trust, a not for profit, self-funding charitable organisation who work with people of all ages and abilities, to help them overcome personal disadvantage through engaging with their local culture and heritage.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Memory Box Project Online aims to make our collection of reminiscence objects and resources more accessible both now and in the future. By moving online, we can encourage anyone in the world to browse, explore, comment and share memories about our items.

And we do want you to share your memories with us! At the end of each item page there is a contact form where you can submit any stories, memories or questions about the object which we can add to its record. Sharing your memory might help spark a memory of someone else, creating connection and helping to build a repository of stories which may otherwise have been lost to time.

If you have any questions about how the website works or suggestions for other resources you might like to see, you can contact Digital Officer Katherine Mills at [email protected]

Here’s a bit more about how it works….

When you first start using our website, you can explore all of the Memory Box Project items from the comfort of your home.

You can see all the objects together on the ‘All items’ tab, or start looking at some of our themes or collections if you are interested in something more specific.

Browse through the items until you find something that catches your eye. Clicking on it will give you more information and pictures, as well as links to other objects you might find interesting.

Collect

A collection of childhood toys including a spinning top and marbles.

Once you have found some items which catch your interest, bring back memories or spark conversation, you can start saving them to your own personal collection.

You will need to register as a user and then you can click the little heart symbol on any of the objects to add them to your Favourites. This means they will be saved and you can come back to them at any time by clicking on the ‘Your Favourites’ tab.

This means you will have created your own unique collection of items which have personal significance to you, and which you can come back to over again, and add new objects at any time.

Share

Three toy cars.

Hopefully the act of browsing through items and adding to your collection will have brought back memories from your life and encouraged conversations with those around you.

Did talking with someone else about the objects help you remember something new? Did their experiences remind you of something that happened in your life too? Sharing our memories and experiences can help others, as much as it is enjoyable for ourselves – and we would love to hear your stories too!

At the bottom of each item page is a contact form where you can send us your memories, which we can add to that item’s record. Your story may help spark someone else’s memories and you will have contributed to our online collection, adding value and context for future users.
